About Briefly Taxing

the man | the myth | the legend (in his own mind)

SSA Headshot (2024)

Briefly Taxing’s founder, editor-in-chief, resident telosophist,* and Chief Snarkicist

Scott St. Amand — your author, editor, web designer, Chief Renaissance Man, and dashing tax scholar is a Florida Board Certified Tax Lawyer, and head of the Tax Controversy department of the Jacksonville, Florida law firm of Fisher Tousey.  His legal practice focuses primarily in the area of Federal and state tax controversies. Though Scott was a commercial litigator in years gone by, he’s happy to report that he has earnestly thought about what he’s done and has sincerely mended his ways.  Scott earned his Board Certification in June of 2022, making him one of only .2% of all Florida attorneys to achieve such a distinction.

Scott graduated with honors from the University of Florida, Levin College of Law with an LL.M. in Taxation.  He received his J.D. from the University of Richmond, T.C. Williams School of Law, and his B.A. in English and Latin from Wake Forest University.  Scott also earned a post-doctorate degree in sarcasm (with a concentration in passive aggression) after a three-decade-long apprenticeship with his father, the original Snarkicist, a true revolutionary in the field and a singular individual, who—it must be noted—would have been a Nobel Laureate in the subject, if the Swedes weren’t so damn myopic…but “we” digress…

Scott lives in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida with his remarkably beautiful (and ever so patient) wife, two  children, two flat coated retrievers, a fat ginger cat he likes, and an ancient shadow of a cat, who has long chosen not to deign to acknowledge that he exists—their relationship the very antipode of codependence.

*The Ancient Greek word for tax is “telos,” and when combined with the word “sophia” meaning wisdom, telosophist refers to one who is wise in the ways of tax, a teacher, a master of tax.  Yes I coined it, and yes, I am getting a plaque made for my desk.
